Danae 1643 Oil on Canvas by Rembrandt

Ah este man pintó mucho.

Ah, this guy painted a lot. A visual artist like no other. And he painted everything: portraits, landscapes, religious and mythological scenes, miniatures, nudes, you name it. He sold a lot and was always broke. I recommend you look for his work as a printmaker.
Le escribo a mi mujer
Romántica, hermética,
que guarda secretos
inmersos en el alma.
Mi mujer maestra de erotismo.
Ella en mi sueña precisa.
Mi mujer femeninamente escrita
obsesivamente seductora,
doblega la voluntad a la utopía.
La exploro en todos los libros
la reinvento, la dejo igual.
Mi mujer irresistible y perversa
devoradora de verdad y casi perfecta.
Le escribo a mi mujer
Esa, que en este momento me habita.
I write to my women
Romantic, enigmatic,
who keeps secrets
deep in her soul.
My women, master of eroticism.
She is a precise dream in my mind.
My woman, femininely written,
obsessively seductive,
who bends the will to utopia.
I explore her in every book,
I reinvent her, I leave her the same.
My irresistible and perverse woman,
a devourer of truth and almost perfect.
I write to my woman,
She who inhabits me at this moment.

Two Young Girls at the Piano 1892 by Pierre Auguste Renoir

Amor a primera vista.

It was love. I knew who he was and that he was important. I had seen “Luncheon of the Boating Party”
Then I saw “Two Girls at the Piano” at the Metropolitan Museum. I understood what Impressionism was, and it seemed to me that I was one of those girls. I imagine I understood myself and I saw my soul in other paintings. In this artist’s work, I feel like myself. I am in the paintings. Its my reflection.
I don’t know how you saw infinity in my eyes
and all this longing and I was left with an open mouth
the timeless idea and time without a soul,
and the soul without a secret and this damn cold.

Self-portrait 1500 by Albrecht Dürer

In English too.
The first time I saw one of his portraits, I thought it was a version of Jesus. The western version of the white man with light eyes, far from the “reality” and my the my mother used to keep in a holy card. Now I prefer to carry an image of this artist. Just as an artist. A prolific genius who never ceases to amaze me and for whom I yearn.
Tú en mis palabras
Algunas veces
te encuentro entre mis versos
inmerso y pensativo
escuchando al universo
sembrando fuego
siempre marchando.
Yo te contemplo
combatiendo
con los días y el destino
y la muerte y el amor.
Y te llevas la palabra
y me arrastras
y me dejas
muda, desnuda
tan deshabitada.
You in My Words
Sometimes
I find you among my verses
immersed and pensive
listening to the universe
sowing fire
always marching.
I contemplate you
battling
with the days and the destiny
and death and love.
And you take the word
and drag me along
and leave me
mute, naked
uninhabited.
